New Landscape Installation

This new landscape installation in Seabeck is one of the largest residential projects we’ve installed to date.  Our clients’ gorgeous custom home was constructed by BK Sargeant Construction, and from their kitchen table and back deck they enjoy a breathtaking view of the Olympic Mountains.

Landscape Architect Emily Russell of Russell Design Source designed this landscape, providing a formal to-scale plan to our clients which we were able to easily reference and work from. Never one to impress her design ideas upon her clients, she listened to what they had to say about which features to include in their landscape plan and gave them exactly what they wanted.

One of their main concerns was an area that remained saturated after heavy rains due to a natural slope in the landscape. Emily’s design solution was to incorporate a dry waterfall and river rock bed. Larger 2-man and 3-man sized rocks were placed throughout the beds and within the river rock bed as well. The dark, nutrient-rich garden mix topsoil you see below was delivered to us from Vern’s Organic Topsoil.

Vern’s Organic Topsoil was used for all raised garden beds and lawn areas. With approximately 13,000 square feet of lawn, installing an irrigation system was an absolute must. Another must for our clients was purchasing a new riding lawn mower!

Emily’s plant selection took into account the many deers that inhabit neighboring wooded areas.  Though just because a plant is considered to be “deer resistant,” that doesn’t mean it won’t be eaten.  Deers will eat just about anything if they’re hungry enough.  The plant list included Whitebarked Himalayan Birch, Oakleaf Hydrangeas, Variegated Winter Daphne along with natives such as Oregon Grape Holly and Western Sword Fern.

Grass began to grow within two weeks of hydroseed being sprayed, largely due to the endless amount of sunshine we received in late July.

The value of working with a Landscape Architect cannot be overstated.  Our clients knew what the end result would look like, even before we arrived on day one.  We were able to provide our clients with a 6-week plan and time frame for completion, a deadline which we met thanks to our hot and dry summer.

Curtain Drain Installation

One of our maintenance clients was having trouble with water leaking into his basement. We installed a curtain drain to intercept the water and move it away from his home.

Curtain drains are constructed by digging a trench – in this particular case, around our client’s home – lining it with fabric and installing perforated pipe to capture the water and direct it to another location.  The trench is then filled with drain rock.

The trench is lined with fabric and filled with gravel and a perforated pipe.

Our client had a natural slope in his landscape to help channel the water away from his home.

The trench was topped with drain rock.

If water is leaking into your basement, a curtain drain is an affordable solution to help keep it dry. Consult a professional company for this work. Water that is not properly dealt with can cause problems that are costly to repair.

Back Yard Retreat

Before we started this project in August 2012, this back yard was filled with native trees and the land was dramatically sloped.

We brought in fill dirt and constructed two retaining walls, in order to create flat, usable space.

Now, a level area was available for our clients to use, and they opted for a decorative concrete patio.

New topsoil was brought in and hydroseed was applied, resulting in a new lawn.

Here, the retaining walls had already been constructed.  Colby sprays the lines for a concrete patio.

Forms for the patio are ready for concrete, and the soil has been graded to prepare for hydroseed.

The concrete patio has been installed and stamped, while the hydroseed has sprouted baby grass.

Post-color is applied to the interior and border, along with varying colors to make the compass stamp really pop.

Exposed Aggregate Concrete Driveway

We recently constructed an exposed aggregate concrete driveway along with a broomed finish sidewalk for a client who lives in the Dockside community on Kitsap Lake.

We tackled the exposed aggregate portion of this concrete project in two separate pours.  This allowed us the time to match up the cut lines in a controlled manner, and also do a meticulous job in revealing the decorative aggregate surface.

The “mud” has been delivered and is being distributed throughout the area of the soon-to-be concrete driveway.

Cut lines are carefully placed to mitigate cracks from occurring.

The top part of the driveway has already been exposed. In the bottom half of the driveway, the decorative aggregate is embedded in the concrete, though awaits its exposure through washing and brushing the surface.

After revealing the decorative aggregate, any residual surface mortar is washed away.

We offer discounted rates on all concrete products during the late fall and winter months.  If you’ve been waiting to move forward with a concrete driveway, now’s a great time to save money!
